Trend Teaser: New in Bed & Bath

With Home Textiles Market Week on the horizon, new trends in the Bed and Bath categories are top of mind. 2018 and 2019 are seeing a bigger connection with nature and world communities, driven by customer demand for authenticity. Raw natural details and textures are celebrated across bath and bed products, with organic materials used to highlight their natural beauty. Luxury details embrace craftsmanship from global cultures.

One of my favorite emerging trends from this shift mixes monochrome graphics with the ever popular folk-inspired aesthetic that continues to pop up in retail. This specific take on the folk look has broad interest with minimalistic colorways, handcrafted details, and mixed-and-matched motifs that will appeal to simple living enthusiasts as well as luxury-tier customers.

Mud cloth-like linear marks are raw, but carefully composed. Graphic patterns that look hand-drawn are recreated through print or weave and carefully reproduced on ceramic accessories. Wooden accents can have roughly carved motifs or smooth surfaces that highlight the grain.  Bed frames and bath fixtures have a handcrafted feel in wood and brass constructions.

Traditional block printing techniques and woven jacquards incorporate motifs and marks in a monochrome palette. A quieter take on the graphic folk contrast can be achieved though the use of pastels and tactile finishes, while more experimental looks mix black-and-white motifs with punchy spots of color.

Keep an eye out for these looks making a statement on shelves later in 2018 and 2019.
